it genuinely was kino though. when the show started taking itself too seriously, while simultaneously featuring increasingly silly plots, it became much worse. the last season isn't enjoyable at all. i don't think there's anyone who prefers it over season 1.

I don't remember who it was, but some TV director said on a commentary track or something that nowadays it doesn't matter how you end an episode as long as you put meaningful music on the scene. A character can drink tea and it will seem like an impactful ending if you focus on his face while the music swells. Not a unique insight, I know, but I see it all the time now.
