What can you even do on free? I've made sonnet type a grand total of 3 separate messages before I was rate limited and bought a plan because I actually needed it

They'll make sure you will not be able to use it, do not rely on it. At best you can try to use multiple vendors at the same time or juggle with accounts etc.

It used to be Claude for the initial planning because Opus could understand your intention and fill the gaps that weren't communicated clearly then to Codex for raw autism spec implementation where instruction following was important. I wonder if this is still the same with GPT 5.5 and Opus 4.7 releases.
