I’ve finally understood what the real problem is, why people are trapped on these platforms. And by that, I don’t just mean YouTube, Reddit, X, and Discord, but 4chan as well. It’s because they are consoomers. Why do they find it so hard to leave these platforms? Because, first and foremost, they are consumers of content. But if you really want to break free from the hell of the modern internet, you have to become a producer. Take Everiot, for example. It doesn’t matter that the platform is largely dead; in fact, the deader a platform is, the more the user has to generate content. I generate content here. I don’t need fast-paced videos, memes, or even engagement. I create everything here on my own. And if someone does react, that’s nice but ultimately, I’m the one who has to put in the work. We don’t need the big platforms. We don’t need a huge user base, either. The path to liberation begins with breaking away from passive content consumption and using the internet as a canvas that you shape yourself. We have the ability to fill the void of these small, niche platforms. That is the real issue. This is the thing with the vast majority of users on /g/: they are passive consumers. They whine about the state of the internet, but their criticism comes from a position of weakness, that of the powerless consumer.
